And where are we on the #travel1k charts today, we wonder? From last week’s #204 … well will you look at that, for the week of June 27th we’re continuing to march up the ranks, #157! Excellent, excellent. Back in the top 100 soon!

This week we saw the biggest climbs from Kate McCulley (up 1219 places to 162nd), ABANG FADLI mytravellicious (up 1169 places to 231st), and Trips with Tykes (up 1094 places to 294th).

Well done to this week’s top three Charles McCool (McCool Travel)Matt Matt, and Jeana Travels.

And let’s see, what can we find for a new blog to check out this week? Here we are, at #14 up from #61: @rockytravel’s Rocky Travel!

I am Michela, the solo traveller, writer, blogger and publisher of Rocky Travel: The leading travel blog for the solo traveller in Australia.

I was born and grew up in Italy, but at the age of 19 I was fluent with German, at 26 I was fluent with English and with 35 I finally added Spanish to my knowledge. My love for languages, foreign cultures and a deep curiosity about all things in life is the biggest drive for travelling…

In March 2004 I decided to step out of my box and venture out to travelling solo with my backpack. In a few months I prepared my first long solo travel trip to discover the other side of the world: Land Down Under!

It was one of the best experiences of my life. Thanks to what I call the “therapeutic power of travel” I could regain confidence in myself and find my own way.

But this was just the beginning of my love affair with Australia.

4 years later in 2008 I finally made the decision to leave my job and hit the road for 3 months. I had a big desire to press on the button RESET, fully unwind and start my life with a different perspective. The job I had been doing for over 15 years belonged to the past and my second trip to Australia was going to mark the beginning of a new life phase…

Oh, we like that quote in the picture. Matter of fact, we like everything we read here, solo traveller for 25 years and counting, Michaela appears to be quite the character!

So with all due respect to our family bloggers from the last couple weeks, this is much more in line with the kind of blog we personally like to read — and she even specializes in Australia to boot, which is most relevant indeed given as we’re heading there for Christmas this year!

Australia Trip Planning Services

In 12 years of solo travels, I’ve crisscrossed Australia from bottom to top and west to east. I’ve travelled  via car, train, plane, and group tour and totalled nearly 100 thousand km. I know how important it is to be prepared and have everything in place before travelling to Australia

Now that’s the kind of travel blog monetization we’re comfortable with. We’ve mentioned a couple times that it seems most people making a living off travel blogging are making it … teaching other people how to travel blog. Which does not particularly interest us.

Monetizing destination expertise, on the other hand, we’re completely into that, and Ms. Michela here is definitely showing how it should be done!

Technically, BuiltWith tells us it’s a standard WordPress setup, and as always we recommend Dreampress as your best choice for that, free Jetpack Professional and all; and an unusually slim stack of plugins — why, even this blog is more tricked out, and that’s a low low bar indeed!

So yep, we’d probably put this blog on our follow list no matter what, but that it’s Australia-focused puts it on our closely follow list at least for the rest of this year —

p dir=”ltr”>— just flipping through to write this up we found a link to One Way Campervan Hire Rentals which we’re hopefully going to save big bucks with, as a one way campervan down the east coast is just what we were planning!
