New 7 Wonders of the World

Remember we noted when looking at Blue Sky Traveler that they’d picked the world and nature lists for their bucket lists, and figured that was a good idea, especially if you prefer goals that are reasonably attainable to our quixotic never-ending Every World Heritage Site quest around here?

Well, more we thought about it the better we liked that idea, so we’re going to start tracking the various New7Wonder lists here along with World Heritage Sites!

The two go together near-perfectly — here’s what the New7Wonders FAQ says:

What is the relationship between New7Wonders the UN and Unesco?

New7Wonders has in the past worked with the United Nations, specifically with the United Nations Office For Partnerships. New7Wonders is not in partnership with Unesco, however, and there is a very good reason for this: due to its remit of cataloguing and long-listing world heritage locations, without being seen to favour some over others, Unesco is by statute not able to organise or endorse popular initiatives such as the New7Wonders campaigns. We see the activities of the UN and Unesco, and those of New7Wonders, as being totally complementary.

Yep, we agree. So we’re going to rename our WHS Masterlist to Sitelist, and add the new Wonderlist! cross-referenced to WHS inscriptions.

First up, the original 2007 New 7 Wonders of the World and the 14 other finalists:
